The Hunger Games

America is not 'America: The home of the free' any more, instead is it a place called Panem. Panem is split into thirteen districts, tho the thirteenth is nothing but ruin after the toxic bombs were thrown down on it. Ever since that day, 74 years ago, there has been The Hunger Games. From every District one boy and one girl are taken to the Capitol, there they are waited-on by servants and are dressed in fine clothes and eat amazing food. But as grate as that may seem, to Katniss Everdeen this is torturous because she knows what this path leads to... Death. She and the other twenty-three 'Tributes' will be put in an arena and be forced to fight to the death, while the whole of Pamen watches it on TV. Only one can be left standing in the end. But Katniss doesn't much like the Capitol, so maybe there is a way for her to stick-it to the authorities ? Can she possibly make a change in a government that holds these games to show their people that ' See? We can take away your children, make them kill each other, and you can't do anything about it.' So, can she save the people of Panem? Can she?

This is a riveting book that has a way of showing you both sides of the line. Suzanne Collins has a natural gift that keeps on giving. She has strong characters, a way with her words and the ability to make to emotions, visions, and every detail leap off every page. This book is one of survival, loss, love, pain, and joy. I would recommend this book to readers who like action, romance, and rebellious novels.
P.S: I can't wait for the next book!!

PROPHECY of the SISTERS

By: Michelle Zink

I rate this book: 9/10
Writing: 9/10
Characters: 10/10

"Without the Keys, something terrible will happen.
Something that cannot be undone.
And with them, I might bring an end to the riddle of the Prophecy and my strange part in it.
If Alice and I are on conflicting sides of the Prophecy, the Keys would be dangerous in her hands."

"Which means I have to find them.

And I have to do it before my sister."

With the untimely death of her father, Lia Milthorpe is left devastated and alone. In just hours after her father's death, Lia developed an odd mark on her arm. But little did she know that the mark signified an ancient Prophecy that had been inherited from mother to daughters for ages and ages past, and now it comes to her and her sister. This Prophecy would not only undermine her relationship with her twin sister Alice, but also change her life forever. As Lia begins to understand the Prophecy and her part in it, she also realizes that Alice and her are on conflicting sides of it. Lia must go through a turbulence of events in order to stop her sister, and to save man kind from an enemy that not all can see.

This book is like diving into another world and never coming back because you may never want to... Prophecy of the Sisters is complete with mystery, wisdom, and even a little romance. It is dark but light and always keeps you on edge. This book will thoroughly transport you to the Gothic times, and will vividly portray it. In so many ways I find glimmers of reality and the human condition in the Prophecy of the Sisters. This is a book I may never get enough of and I can't wait for the sequel. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes history, myths, and mystery fiction.

Welcome to the Balcony

Hello and Welcome to the Book Balcony,
I warmly greet you!
I think it's right that I start my "Blogging Journey", by telling you about myself...
My name is Faith Kristine, I am 13 years old and live in Washington State.
I am a writer (unpublished at present), singer, harpist, fencer, and an actress.
I began taking singing lessons at age 8( I also started acting at this time). I was trained till I was 12 in Opera and have sung publicly many times. I started playing the harp in 4th grade, and in 7th grade took up fencing.
Writing...
Sixth grade was an especially hard time in my life and in a way it was very much a blessing. I didn't know how to get rid of anger, and stress. But one day I sat under an apple tree in my yard and began to write a poem. It wasn't vary good at the time but I just kept on changing it till it sounded worthy of being in print, and not long after that I performed a poem at my local Buddhist meeting. Now I write novels (sometimes they go unfinished), and songs, and sometimes sheet music of my mid-sized Celtic harp.

And now a new part of my life begins... BLOGGING... ABOUT... BOOKS!!!
I will try very hard to blog at least once every two weeks to start off with ( school comes first:)).
So now I, Faith Kristine, am proud to open and present...
The Book Balcony

Sincerely yours,
Faith Kristine
